FX.co ★ Hungary Construction Output at 5-Month Low

Hungary’s construction output declined by 11.4% year-on-year in January 2026, sharply reversing an 8.9% increase in the previous month and marking the weakest performance since August 2025. The downturn was driven primarily by a 14.5% fall in civil engineering works, compared with a 10.5% surge in December 2025. Building construction also contracted, dropping 9.6% after an 8.4% rise in the prior month. The sector was particularly weighed down by a steep 25.6% decline in road and railway construction, a key segment of overall construction activity. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output fell 8.8%, offsetting an upwardly revised 8.8% increase recorded in the preceding period.
