Moldova’s trade deficit widened to USD 512.9 million in January 2026 from USD 477.2 million a year earlier, although export growth outpaced that of imports, resulting in the smallest trade gap since January 2025. Exports increased by 27.8% year-on-year to USD 310.8 million, driven by stronger shipments to CIS countries (up 25.2%), the EU (up 35.1%), and other regions (up 15.6%). Imports rose 14.4% to USD 823.7 million, reflecting higher purchases from the EU (up 20.6%) and other countries (up 11.2%), while imports from CIS countries declined sharply by 39.2%.
