Belgium posted a trade surplus of EUR 3,287.5 million in January 2026, a sharp increase from EUR 212.9 million in the same month a year earlier. This was also the largest surplus since October 2025, as exports declined less steeply than imports.
On a year-on-year basis, exports fell by 4.6% to EUR 40,241.3 million, reflecting weaker shipments to both EU countries (-1.9%) and non-EU destinations (-10.4%). Imports, however, contracted more markedly, dropping 11.9% to EUR 36,953.8 million, with purchases from EU partners down 10.3% and from non-EU countries down 14.8%.
For the full year 2025, Belgium recorded a trade surplus of EUR 26,649.9 million, slightly higher than the EUR 26,316.6 million registered in the previous year.
