The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which measures freight rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, ended a four-day winning streak on Tuesday, slipping 0.7% to 2,024 points. The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, fell 1.3% to 2,888 points, while the supramax index declined 1% to 1,256 points. In contrast, the panamax index, reflecting rates for vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.9% to 1,853 points.
