Retail trade in Spain increased 2.2% year-on-year in February 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 3.8% rise in January and falling short of market expectations of 3.8%. This was the weakest expansion in retail activity since November 2024, as sales growth eased in both food (1.7% vs 2.6% in January) and non-food categories (3.3% vs 5.3%). Within non-food items, growth moderated particularly in household equipment (1.6% vs 2.1%) and healthcare products (1.5% vs 2.3%). On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, retail trade slipped 0.1%, after a revised flat reading in the previous month.
