Norway’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.6% in March 2026 from 2.7% in February, matching market expectations. The main upward pressure came from stronger price growth in housing, electricity, and fuels (4.9% vs 2.2% in February) and transport (4.2% vs 3.2%), reflecting surging energy costs. Inflation also quickened in restaurants and accommodation services (6.3% vs 5.1%), furnishings and household equipment (2.4% vs 0.6%), and information and communication (2.5% vs 0.0%).
By contrast, price growth slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.6% vs 3.3%) and clothing and footwear (1.4% vs 1.8%), while remaining unchanged for recreation and culture (3.9%), education (2.4%), and financial services (8.5%).
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.2% in March, in line with forecasts, following a 0.6% increase in February. Meanwhile, the CPI-ATE, which excludes energy prices and tax changes, increased 3% year-on-year, unchanged from February.
