New car sales in Indonesia fell 13.8% year-on-year to 61,271 units in March 2026, reversing an upwardly revised 12.3% jump in the previous month. The decline was largely attributed to the extended Eid al-Fitr holidays. Despite the March setback, first-quarter sales in 2026 edged up 1.7% compared with the same period in 2025, reaching a total of 209,021 units.
The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) has maintained its target for domestic new car sales at 850,000 units for 2026, implying a 5.8% increase from the 2025 total of 803,687 units.
On a month-on-month basis, wholesale car sales also weakened sharply, dropping 24.6% from February’s 81,250 units. Retail new car sales showed a similar trend, declining 14.8% from the previous month to 66,637 units.
