European natural gas futures slipped below €43 per MMBtu on Wednesday, extending the previous session’s decline to reach a more than six-week low. The drop came as optimism grew that the United States and Iran may resume talks aimed at resolving the conflict. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that discussions with Iran could restart within the next two days, after weekend negotiations collapsed and prompted Washington to impose a blockade on Iranian ports.
At the same time, Asian LNG imports have fallen to their lowest level in nearly six years, a development that could offer temporary relief to European buyers competing for spot cargoes as the region works to rebuild inventories ahead of next winter. Warmer weather across Europe is also expected to dampen heating demand in the coming weeks.
