Belgium’s consumer confidence indicator fell to -9 in April 2026 from -6 in March, reaching its lowest point since April of the previous year. The decline was mainly driven by deteriorating expectations for households’ financial situation over the next twelve months, with that sub-index dropping to -5 from -3. At the same time, households became less optimistic about their saving capacity, as the corresponding index slipped to 18 from 22 over the past two months. In contrast, expectations for Belgium’s overall economic situation improved slightly, with the index edging up to -43 from -45, while concerns about unemployment eased, turning sentiment positive as the related indicator rose to 6 from -3.
