The British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) Shop Price Index for the United Kingdom showed a modest acceleration in price growth, with the indicator rising to 1.2% year-on-year as of 25 May 2026. This follows a reading of 1.0% in April 2026, also measured on an annual basis.
The index compares price changes in the current month with the same month a year earlier, offering a snapshot of inflation trends at the retail level. The latest uptick suggests that shop price inflation has picked up slightly compared with the previous month, though it remains close to recent levels, indicating only a mild increase in pricing pressures across UK retailers.
