Retail sales in Lithuania increased by 8.9% year-on-year in April 2026, up from an upwardly revised 6.7% in March, marking the fastest pace of growth since January. The acceleration was driven primarily by stronger sales in retail trade excluding automotive fuel (11.4% vs. 6.8% in March), non-food products (18.8% vs. 10.1%), mail-order and internet channels (34.6% vs. 21.1%), and non-specialized stores (25.2% vs. 18.3%).
Among specialized stores, retail activity also strengthened across several categories: textiles, clothing, and footwear (7.6% vs. 6.1%); audio, video, hardware, furniture, and lighting (21.1% vs. 7.1%); information and communication equipment (7.2% vs. 2.4%); and pharmaceuticals, medical goods, and cosmetics (13.1% vs. 9.0%).
By contrast, growth in sales of food, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco eased (1.5% vs. 2.2%), while automotive fuel sales contracted (-0.9% vs. a 6.6% increase previously). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, overall retail activity declined by 1.8% in April, following an upwardly revised 3.7% expansion in the prior month.
