Hungary’s unemployment rate in February–April 2026 inched up to 4.5%, from 4.4% in the same period a year earlier. The number of unemployed rose by 1.9 thousand year-on-year, reaching 226.4 thousand.
Of the total unemployed, 116.1 thousand were men, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 4.5%, while 102.5 thousand were women, also with a 4.5% unemployment rate. The average job search duration stood at 13.1 months.
Among jobseekers, 33.3% had been looking for work for less than three months, and 30.6% had been searching for 4–11 months. The share of those unemployed for more than a year increased by 2.4 percentage points, to 36.1%.
At the same time, the number of employed persons declined by 55 thousand year-on-year, to 4.618 million. Employment among men fell by 18 thousand, to 2.464 million, while employment among women decreased by 36.9 thousand, to 2.154 million.
