The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, climbed 828 points, or 1.9%, to 45,561 in Monday morning trade, extending gains from the previous session. The advance was led primarily by electronic technology and technology services shares. The broader index set a fresh record high, breaking above the 45,000 level for the first time, as persistent optimism over AI-related demand continued to bolster sentiment.
Risk appetite was further underpinned by Friday’s rally on Wall Street, where technology stocks advanced on ongoing enthusiasm for AI investments. In Taipei, electronic technology stocks added 2.0%, while technology services shares gained 2.9%.
Among heavyweight constituents, TSMC — the world’s largest contract chipmaker and accounting for more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization — rose 0.4%, with Delta Electronics also up 0.4%. Meanwhile, Hon Hai Precision Industry and MediaTek outperformed, surging 4.5% and 7.7%, respectively.
On the macroeconomic front, Taiwan’s manufacturing sector expanded in May 2026 at its fastest pace since August 2021, supported by stronger demand.
