The annual inflation rate in Mauritius accelerated for a second consecutive month, reaching 4.3% in May 2026 from 3.6% in April, the highest level since December. Price pressures intensified notably in several categories, including restaurants and hotels (11.5% vs. 11% in April), transportation (9.6% vs. 7.5%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (9.3% vs. 9.4%), and housing and utilities (8.1% vs. 3.9%). In contrast, prices continued to decline for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2% vs. -2.3%) and for information and communication (-1.7% vs. 0%). On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.8%, easing from a 1.3% increase recorded in the previous month.
