The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships transporting dry bulk commodities, fell for a ninth consecutive session on Wednesday, declining about 1.7% to 2,771 points, its lowest level since May 1.
The capesize index, covering vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, dropped around 3.2% to 4,301 points.
In contrast, the panamax index, which reflects rates for ships hauling roughly 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, inched up 0.3% to 2,211 points, while the supramax index also rose 0.3%, to 1,618 points.
