In April 2026, Hungary’s gross average wages increased by 9% year-on-year to HUF 772,200, slightly below the 9.2% growth recorded in March. In the public sector, wage growth eased to 10.7% from 11.8% the previous month, and earnings growth in the non-profit sector also slowed, falling to 7.6% from 10.1%. By contrast, wage growth in the private sector picked up, accelerating to 8.7% from 8.4%. Excluding one-off payments and bonuses, gross wages rose 8.4% year-on-year in April, reaching HUF 711,400. Over the first four months of 2026, average gross wages were up 13.4% compared with the same period a year earlier, averaging HUF 779,500.
