The figures, which compare each month’s change to the prior month, indicate that while new housing prices are still under pressure, the downward momentum may be moderating. April’s 0.4% decline represented the comparison of that month to March, while May’s 0.3% reading reflects the change from April to May.
The continued negative readings underscore persistent softness in Canada’s new housing market, but the marginal improvement between April and May will be closely watched by market participants for signs of whether the sector is stabilizing or merely experiencing a temporary slowdown in price declines.
