Bulgaria’s current account deficit widened sharply to EUR 1,209.3 million in April 2026, up from EUR 788.9 million in the same month a year earlier. The goods deficit deepened to EUR 1,084.1 million from EUR 817.4 million, while the services surplus narrowed to EUR 402.7 million from EUR 530.0 million, a decline of EUR 127.4 million. The primary income deficit also increased, reaching EUR 636.1 million compared with EUR 603.7 million in April 2025. By contrast, the secondary income surplus rose modestly to EUR 108.2 million from EUR 102.2 million, an improvement of EUR 6 million that offered only limited offset to the overall deterioration in the current account balance.
