Slovenia’s retail sales increased by 1.8% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 3.3% rise in April and marking the weakest growth since February. The slowdown was largely attributable to a 2.3% decline in food retail sales. By contrast, motor fuel sales surged 13.3%, while non-food retail sales expanded by 1.6%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales fell 0.3% in May, following an upwardly revised 1.0% drop in April, indicating a slight moderation in the pace of contraction. Over the January–May period, total retail turnover was 1.8% higher compared with the same period in 2025. Growth in this interval was driven primarily by a 7.5% increase in motor fuel sales and a 2.8% rise in non-food retail sales, while food retail sales declined 1.6%, underscoring continued weakness in consumer demand for food products.
