The Baltic Exchange’s main dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships transporting dry bulk commodities, declined for the sixth consecutive session on Monday, slipping about 1.4% to 2,490 points, its lowest level since April 15. The capesize index, covering vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, dropped 2.8% to 3,538 points, while the supramax index inched down 0.1% to 1,668 points, its weakest reading since June 15. In contrast, the panamax index, which reflects rates for ships carrying about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.7% to 2,124 points.
