Hungary’s annual inflation rate eased to 1.7% in June 2026, down from 1.8% in May and below market expectations of 1.8%. The moderation in price growth was mainly due to weaker increases in several key categories: food (0.2% vs 0.5% in May), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.1% vs 3.3%), consumer durables (1.9% vs 2.4%), and services (4.0% vs 4.3%). Household energy prices continued to decline, falling 2.3% after a 2.0% decrease in the previous month.
In contrast, inflation picked up slightly for clothing (1.4% vs 1.1%) and for other goods, including fuels (1.1% vs 0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat compared with the previous month. Meanwhile, annual core inflation—which excludes volatile components such as food and energy—held steady at 2% in June, unchanged from May.
