Slovakia recorded a trade surplus of EUR 580.6 million in May 2026, up from EUR 521.7 million in the same month a year earlier. This was the largest surplus since June 2023, supported by exports growing more quickly than imports. Exports rose 2.3% year-on-year to EUR 9.6 billion, driven primarily by an increase of more than 68% in shipments of mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials. Exports to EU member states expanded by over 4%, while exports to non-EU countries fell by more than 4%. On the import side, purchases from abroad increased 1.7% to EUR 9.1 billion, underpinned by a rise of more than 17% in imports of chemicals and related products. Imports from EU countries grew by over 5%, whereas imports from non-EU countries declined by 5%. Over the January–May 2026 period, the trade surplus widened to EUR 1,293.2 million, compared with EUR 875.9 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
