Construction output in the Czech Republic rose by 4.4% year-on-year in May 2026, slowing from a 7.7% increase in April but marking the nineteenth consecutive month of growth. Both main segments contributed to the expansion: building construction increased by 3.3%, while civil engineering works advanced by 6.6%.
A total of 5,784 building permits were issued, up 11.6% compared with a year earlier, reflecting gains in both new building and civil engineering projects. The floor area of new building construction surged by 74.2%.
Housing activity was also strong: housing starts jumped 48.3% to 3,968 units, and the number of completed dwellings rose 13.5% to 2,811 units. On a month‑on‑month basis, construction output edged up 0.2% in May, following a 0.6% increase in April.
