Bulgaria’s current account deficit widened sharply to EUR 597.8 million in May 2026, up from EUR 88.2 million in the same month a year earlier. The goods account deficit increased to EUR 782.6 million from EUR 419.2 million, while the services account surplus narrowed to EUR 556.9 million from EUR 634.1 million. The weaker performance in services was driven mainly by stagnation in manufacturing services (compared with EUR 10.4 million previously) and a decline in transportation services (EUR 190.5 million vs EUR 201.2 million). At the same time, the primary income deficit edged up slightly to EUR 480.1 million from EUR 479.4 million a year earlier. The secondary income surplus also decreased, falling by EUR 68.3 million to EUR 108 million.
