Italy’s industrial turnover rose by 0.6% month-on-month in May 2026, following a revised 0.2% decline in April. Foreign sales rebounded (up 1.6% vs down 0.8% in April), while domestic sales increased more modestly (0.1% vs 0.2%).
On an annual basis, calendar-adjusted industrial turnover grew by 5.3%, accelerating from a revised 2.7% increase in April. The improvement was driven by stronger sales in both domestic (4.7% vs 2.8%) and foreign markets (6.6% vs 2.4%).
By industrial group, the energy sector continued to record the strongest growth (28.6%), followed by capital goods (6.6%) and intermediate goods (6.1%), while consumer goods sales declined by 1.4%.
Meanwhile, turnover in the services sector edged up 0.2% month-on-month after remaining flat in April. The increase was supported by higher activity in professional, scientific, and technical services (2.0% vs 1.6%), real estate (1.8% vs 0.4%), and accommodation and food services (1.1% vs 0.8%).
