Tourist arrivals in Bulgaria edged down by 0.2% year-on-year to 1,424.1 thousand in June 2026, following a 2.4% increase in May. Holiday and recreation trips made up the largest share of total arrivals at 52.3%, while visits for other purposes accounted for 39.7% and business and professional travel for 8.0%.
Arrivals from European Union member states reached 812.8 thousand, or 57.1% of all foreign visitors, with Romania remaining the main source market and contributing 30.3% of EU arrivals. Tourists from other European countries totaled 525.6 thousand, representing 36.9% of all visits; Turkey was the leading source in this group, accounting for 46.1%, or 242.2 thousand, of these arrivals.
Transit travelers passing through Bulgaria numbered 420.7 thousand in June, making up 29.5% of all visits by foreign citizens.
