The Ibovespa slipped 0.1% on Tuesday, closing at 177,895, weighed down by declines in financial and energy stocks. Petrobras lost 1.3%, tracking weaker crude prices amid optimism that the United States and Iran could reach an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The financial sector softened ahead of Wednesday’s Copom interest rate decision: Itaú fell 2.5%, Bradesco dropped 1.8%, and Itaúsa retreated 1.7%. In contrast, BB Seguridade advanced 1.7% after posting second-quarter 2026 results broadly in line with expectations. Investors also remained focused on Itaú’s earnings, scheduled for release later in the day.
Telecom names lagged, with Vivo down 2% and TIM off 2.3%. On the upside, Vale climbed 2.2% as iron ore prices inched higher, while Gerdau gained 3.1% ahead of its results. RD Saúde (+3%) and Prio (-0.1%) are also due to report earnings later today. Other notable gainers included WEG, up 2%, and Sabesp, which rose 1.6%.
