Private house approvals in Australia rose by 0.4% month-on-month to 10,631 units in June 2026, in line with preliminary estimates but easing from the 2.4% increase recorded in May. This was the second consecutive monthly gain, driven by stronger approvals in Queensland (+2.9%), South Australia (+2.8%), and Victoria (+2.2%). By contrast, approvals declined in New South Wales (-0.3%) and Western Australia (-5.4%).
Meanwhile, approvals for private-sector dwellings excluding houses jumped 17.8% to 7,138 units, underscoring solid momentum in higher-density housing. On an annual basis, private house approvals surged 15.8%, up from a 13.3% increase in May and representing the fastest growth rate since September 2024.
