Fiji’s annual inflation eased to 5.7% in July 2026 from 6.1% in June—its fastest rate in nearly three years—primarily reflecting sharply lower fuel costs in line with falling global prices. The slowdown was largely driven by a weaker rise in transport prices (11.7% vs 19.3% in June).
Inflation also moderated in several other categories, including housing (6.1% vs 7.2%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (14.3% vs 14.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (2.7% vs 3.4%), while remaining unchanged for education (0.4%).
In contrast, food inflation picked up to 4.1%, its highest level since October 2024. Prices declined for clothing and footwear (-0.3% vs 0.1%), recreation and culture (-2.4% vs -3.0%), and furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (-0.6% vs -0.2%).
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index fell 1.1% in July, reversing a 2.8% increase in June and marking the first monthly decline in six months.
