The Baltic Dry Index declined 1.2% to 3,046 on Tuesday, following a 0.2% drop on Monday. The capesize index, which tracks vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, fell 2% to 5,001. The supramax index also edged down 0.2% to 1,600, its lowest level in nine weeks. In contrast, the panamax index—reflecting ships that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain—rose 0.3% to 2,312, its highest reading since June 2.
