Japan’s machine tool orders rose 50.4% year-on-year to JPY 193,102 million in July 2026, following a 52.8% surge in June. The strong performance reflected solid demand in both domestic and overseas markets. Foreign orders increased 50.5% from a year earlier to JPY 139,864 million, after a 56.0% gain in the previous month, while domestic orders grew 50.2% year-on-year to JPY 53,238 million, following a 45.5% rise in June.
On a month-on-month basis, however, total machine tool orders fell 5.1% in July, sharply reversing a 15.0% increase in June. Over the first seven months of 2026, cumulative machine tool orders reached JPY 1,248,243 million, up 37.8% from the same period a year earlier, with foreign and domestic orders advancing 42.3% and 26.5%, respectively.
