The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for the Euro Area climbed to 31.4 in August 2026, its highest level in six months and well above market expectations of 25.4. This was the third consecutive monthly increase in sentiment across the bloc.
In August, 57% of analysts expected economic activity to remain unchanged, 37.2% anticipated an improvement, and 5.8% foresaw a deterioration. The assessment of the current economic situation also strengthened, with the corresponding index jumping by 16.2 points to -21.5. At the same time, inflation expectations fell by 8 points to 2.4.
