Chile’s economy showed signs of gradual stabilization in the second quarter of 2026, with the year-over-year decline in gross domestic product easing to -0.2%, according to data updated on 18 August 2026. This follows a deeper contraction of -0.5% recorded in the first quarter of 2026 on the same year-over-year basis.
The data indicate that while Chile remains in negative growth territory compared with a year earlier, the pace of contraction has slowed between the first and second quarters. Both the current and previous readings compare quarterly GDP performance with the corresponding quarter a year before, highlighting a modest improvement in Chile’s economic trajectory as the year progresses.
