Georgia Trade Gap Narrows in July

Georgia’s trade deficit narrowed to USD 909.1 million in July 2026, down from USD 998.8 million in July 2025. Exports surged 30% year-on-year to USD 793.9 million, while imports rose 5.8% to USD 1,703 million.

Over the January–July period, exports increased 21.6% to USD 4,670.2 million. This growth was mainly driven by a sharp rise in sales of oil and petroleum products (up 1,052%) and copper ores and concentrates (up 310.8%). In contrast, exports of passenger cars fell 21.5%, though they remained Georgia’s leading export item. Export growth was strongest to China (up 166.4%), Russia (up 6.2%), and Armenia (up 31.2%).

Imports for January–July grew 2.4% to USD 10,849 million, supported by higher purchases of oil and petroleum products (up 32.7%) and medications (up 6.5%). Imports of passenger cars declined 12.8%, but they continued to be the country’s largest import category. The fastest growth in imports was recorded from China (up 22.3%), Russia (up 26.5%), and Turkey (up 5%).

As a result, Georgia’s trade deficit for the January–July period narrowed to USD 6,178.9 million, compared with USD 6,756.4 million in the same period a year earlier.
