Malta’s annual inflation rate inched up to 2.1% in July 2026, from a more than one-year low of 2.0% in June. Price growth accelerated in several categories, including restaurants and hotels (3.3% vs 3.0% in June), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.8% vs 1.6%), housing and utilities (3.0% vs 2.8%), furnishings and household equipment (2.9% vs 2.6%), insurance and financial services (1.0% vs 0.3%), and miscellaneous goods and services (3.7% vs 2.9%). Deflation in clothing and footwear also moderated (-3.6% vs -3.9%).
By contrast, inflation eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.7% vs 1.8%), transportation (1.9% vs 2.6%), health (2.8% vs 3.0%), and recreation and culture (3.2% vs 3.4%), while it remained unchanged for education (3.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.5% in July, after a 1.1% increase in the previous month.
