FX.co ★ El Salvador Trade Deficit Widens in July

El Salvador’s trade deficit widened to $1.19 billion in July 2026, up from $1.10 billion a year earlier, as import growth outpaced exports. Imports increased 7.2% year-on-year to $1.83 billion, driven by a 14.5% rise in purchases from other Central American countries, while imports from outside the region grew 6%. Exports expanded 6% to $636 million, supported primarily by traditional products, which surged 43.6%. Sugar exports soared 1,617.5%, more than offsetting a 1.7% decline in coffee shipments. Sales to Central American markets increased 7.4%, whereas exports to destinations outside the region edged down 0.6%.
