Retail sales in the Czech Republic rose by 4.8% year-on-year in July 2026, beating market expectations of a 4.5% increase and registering the fastest growth since March. The result represents an acceleration from a downwardly revised 3.4% gain in June.
The expansion was broad-based and driven mainly by non-food items, where sales advanced 6.6%. Food sales grew by 2.7%, and automotive fuel sales increased by 4%. Within the non-food segment, clothing and footwear sales jumped 8.8%, while pharmaceutical and medical goods recorded a 7.8% rise. Online and mail-order sales posted the strongest performance, surging 12.4%, whereas stores specializing in household products were the only category to see a decline.
Meanwhile, sales of motor vehicles and related repair services edged up 0.5% year-on-year. On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, overall retail sales increased by 0.6% in July, recovering from a 0.1% drop in June.
