The National Bank of Angola cut its key interest rate by 100 basis points to 14.75% at its August 2026 meeting, marking a third consecutive reduction and bringing the rate to its lowest level since 2016. Policymakers attributed the move to a sustained disinflationary trend and an improving economic outlook, despite lingering uncertainty related to the conflict in the Middle East. The annual inflation rate eased to 8.78% in August 2026 from 9.33% in July, its lowest reading since April 2015 and an extension of the downward trajectory that began in mid-2024. At the same time, economic growth accelerated sharply, with GDP expanding 8.74% year-on-year in Q2 2026 — the strongest pace since Q2 2022 and a notable pickup from 5.32% in Q1.
