US equity futures rose firmly on Monday, rebounding from last week’s losses as a pullback in oil prices eased Treasury yields and briefly offset a weakening macroeconomic backdrop. Futures on the S&P 500 and Dow advanced about 0.6%, while Nasdaq 100 contracts gained up to 1%.
Indications that Gulf Cooperation Council states had intensified diplomatic efforts to persuade Tehran to lift its blockade on fuel tankers pushed crude and refined product prices further off their monthly highs. The resulting decline in energy prices helped relieve some of the recent pressure on Treasuries.
Lower credit costs brightened the outlook for AI hyperscalers to keep issuing record volumes of debt, bolstering chipmakers and AI infrastructure stocks, even as the sector remained in focus amid ongoing debate over AI safety risks. Intel, AMD, Seagate, Marvell, and Western Digital climbed between 3% and 5%. Meta gained more than 2.5% following favorable reception of its Muse AI agent, while bank stocks also edged higher on the back of reduced borrowing costs.
