India’s BSE Sensex fell about 0.4% to close at 74,529.1 on Tuesday, giving back the previous day’s gains after a volatile session. Losses in financials and technology shares outweighed the modest boost from softer crude oil prices.
Investors also monitored developments at the United Nations General Assembly, focusing on potential US–Iran diplomacy. US President Trump, scheduled to speak later in the day, indicated he was open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Market participants tracked strong demand for the National Stock Exchange IPO, which attracted more than $10 billion in bids and was subscribed 5.71 times. The exchange’s shares are slated to list on Thursday.
Among major decliners, Bajaj Finserv (-1.6%), Bajaj Finance (-1.5%), Trent (-1.5%), Sun Pharma (-1.3%) and TCS (-1.1%) were the top laggards. Infosys (-1%), HCL Tech (-0.8%) and Tech Mahindra (-0.5%) also came under pressure after CLSA and Goldman Sachs highlighted weak demand as a drag on the sector’s medium-term outlook.
On the upside, Eternal (1.9%) and IndiGo (1.6%) recorded the strongest gains.
