Kosovo’s trade deficit widened to €568 million in August 2026, up from €536.8 million in the same month a year earlier. Imports increased by 9% to €668.5 million, supported by a 6.6% rise in purchases from EU member states. Germany remained the leading supplier, accounting for 13.6% of total imports, followed by Italy (4.2%) and Poland (3.7%). By contrast, imports from CEFTA partners (North Macedonia, Serbia and Albania) fell by 2.1%.
The import structure was dominated by machinery and transport equipment (23.2% of the total), followed by fuel (18.4%), processed goods (16.6%), and food and live animals (14.9%).
Exports surged by 31.9% to €100.5 million, driven by a 29.8% increase in shipments to the EU. Germany was also the main export destination, absorbing 10.2% of total exports, ahead of Italy (3.0%) and the Netherlands (2.2%). Exports to CEFTA countries (Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro) rose by 32.2%.
The export basket was led by processed goods (25.4%), followed by food and live animals (15.7%), and fuel (12.8%).
