In Thursday’s cash session, the Dow fell 0.31%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite ended roughly flat. The equity moves followed a sharp rise in benchmark borrowing costs: the 10‑year US Treasury yield climbed to 5.2%, its highest level since 2007, and the 30‑year yield advanced to 5.5%, a peak last seen in 2004.
Sentiment was further unsettled by heightened volatility in the oil market, as traders assessed reports that the US and Iran were discussing a phased agreement that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lead to the lifting of a US blockade on Iranian ports.
Attention now turns to incoming macroeconomic data, with investors awaiting the University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey and durable goods orders, both due on Friday. No major corporate earnings releases are on the calendar.
