The index was supported by declining oil prices and lower government bond yields, amid renewed optimism over a potential resolution to the Iran conflict. Market sentiment improved on speculation about a phased agreement between the United States and Iran that would allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
At the same time, the extension of the trade truce between the US and China until January, agreed at the Trump–Xi summit, helped ease fears of an imminent escalation in trade tensions.
On the data front, German consumer confidence deteriorated more than anticipated heading into October, as rising energy costs weighed on households’ income expectations.
Most sectors traded higher, with banks, technology, and travel-related stocks leading the gains. Commerzbank and Deutsche Bank climbed 2.4% and 2%, respectively, placing them among the session’s top performers.
