Singapore’s manufacturing output jumped 15.4% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from a downwardly revised 6.8% increase in July. The expansion was powered by sustained AI-related demand, with production in the precision engineering cluster surging 33.9% on the back of higher output of semiconductor equipment in the machinery and systems segment.
The electronics sector also posted strong gains, climbing 28.5%, supported by robust production of servers and related equipment, semiconductors, and data storage products. Transport engineering output grew 9.5%, while biomedical manufacturing edged up 0.4%.
By contrast, chemicals output contracted 12.7%, weighed down by weaker activity in the petroleum and petrochemicals segments. On a month-on-month basis, overall manufacturing output fell 0.5%, reversing the 2.3% increase recorded in July.
