Chile’s industrial production fell 5.7% year-on-year in August 2026, deepening from a 5.1% contraction in July. The decline was driven primarily by an 11.7% drop in mining output, reflecting weaker activity in metallic mining (-16.9%). This was largely due to a 12.8% decrease in copper extraction and processing, as a storm in July disrupted operations and its effects continued to be felt throughout August. In contrast, non-metallic mining expanded by 22.3%. Manufacturing output decreased 2.6%, a milder contraction than the 4.9% decline recorded previously. Meanwhile, utilities production rose 1.0%, picking up from a 0.3% increase in the prior month. On a monthly basis, overall industrial production fell 2.2%, following a 3.8% decline in July.
