Personal income in the US increased 0.2% month-over-month to $27,627 billion in August 2026, following a downwardly revised 0.3% gain in July and falling short of the 0.4% increase forecast by analysts. The $66.6 billion rise in August primarily reflected higher compensation, led by private-sector wages and salaries, as well as an uptick in government social benefits, driven mainly by Medicare and Social Security payments. At the same time, disposable personal income grew 0.3%, easing from a 0.4% rise in July, while real disposable personal income was unchanged, after a 0.3% increase in the previous month.
