South Korea's exports surged 83.5% year-on-year to USD 120.9 billion in September 2026, far exceeding market expectations of a 61.7% increase and accelerating from an upwardly revised 68.7% rise in August. This marked the fastest growth rate since February 1974. Exports expanded for the 16th consecutive month, setting a new monthly record after first crossing the USD 100 billion threshold in June. The robust performance was largely driven by strong global demand for memory chips, with semiconductor exports also climbing for the 16th straight month and exceeding USD 60 billion for the first time.
