The Eurozone’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.4% in August 2026, unchanged since February and in line with analysts’ expectations. The labor market has remained resilient even as businesses contend with rising energy costs and higher interest rates linked to the prolonged conflict in the Middle East. The number of unemployed rose by 26,000 from the previous month, reaching 11.357 million people.
Youth unemployment edged down to 15% from 15.1% in July, with 2.391 million people under the age of 25 out of work. Among the bloc’s largest economies, Germany (4%) and the Netherlands (4%) posted the lowest unemployment rates, while Spain (10%), France (8.2%), and Italy (6.2%) recorded the highest. A year earlier, the overall Eurozone jobless rate had been slightly lower, at 6.3%.
Across the broader European Union, the unemployment rate was stable at 6.1% for the seventh consecutive month.
