Brazil Trade Surplus Surges in September

Brazil’s trade surplus jumped 146.4% year-on-year to $7.74 billion in September 2026, beating market expectations of $7.19 billion and posting the strongest annual increase since January 2024. Exports advanced 12.9% to $34.42 billion. Agricultural shipments grew 4.8%, supported by soaring sales of rye, oats and other unmilled cereals (31,239.5%), as well as higher exports of unroasted coffee (8.7%) and soybeans (11.9%). Exports from the extractive industry climbed 39.8%, driven by other crude minerals (104.4%), copper ores and concentrates (74.2%), and crude petroleum oils (77.3%). Manufacturing exports rose 5.3%, led by soybean meal and other animal feed, meat and animal flours (47.7%), fuel oils from petroleum or bituminous minerals (39.1%), and non-monetary gold.

On the import side, total purchases declined 2.4% to $26.68 billion, as imports of manufactured goods fell 3.2%, offsetting increases in agricultural imports (up 9.3%) and extractive industry imports (up 7.4%).
