Construction output in the Czech Republic decreased by 1.4% year-on-year in August 2026, following a 1.8% increase in July. Within the sector, building construction expanded by 5.9% compared with a year earlier, up from 4.9% growth in the previous month, while civil engineering contracted more sharply, falling 12.3% after a 3.4% decline in July.
A total of 5,684 building permits were issued in August, an increase of 1.4% year-on-year, and the floor area of newly permitted buildings grew by 20.2%. Construction began on 3,922 dwellings, a 42.3% year-on-year surge, supported by growth in both family houses and multi-dwelling buildings. In contrast, 2,852 dwellings were completed, representing a 3.0% year-on-year decrease.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, total construction output declined by 0.1% in August, reversing the 0.4% increase recorded in July.
